Karen Sistek, Master Silk Painter

Karen Sistek profile picKaren is as infatuated with silk painting today as she was the first time she touched her brush to silk over 25 years ago.  Through years of practice, she continues to perfect her own technique.  She specializes in flowers, mostly from an “insect’s point of view”, zooming in on a certain aspect of the flower and bringing it closer to the viewer.  Karen is able to focus full time on producing her art.  Family and friends are a great support, and she attributes much of her success to them.

An internationally respected teacher and artist, In July 2011 she received the prestigious designation of Signature Member by Silk Painters International, which recognizes artistic achievement in silk painting and entitles the member to use the initials MSP, Master Silk Painter, after their name. In August of that year, she was selected from a field of over 50 artists to provide the artwork for the 2013 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.  Karen was also chosen as one of only 9 artists to paint a 3′ x 9′ silk banner to hang at the US Botanical Garden in Washington DC, in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institute.

Each creation is named after someone special to Karen’s heart.
